The pen is fitted to a simple piston pump, which is then operated manually so as to force flushing fluid through the ink and air passages. The same pump can then be used to force air through and remove all the fluid. The process is particularly for pens as used by draughtsmen, architects, illustrators etc., and avoids any need for dismantling the pen, with consequent mess.
