Process for the prodn. of glass particles from suspensions or calcined material arising from radioactive wastes, the novelty being that sepn., melting and founding of the glass, together with particle-formation and cooling, are all combined in a single process operation. The particle or drops of molten glass are pref. obtd. using nozzles, the speed of the drops being regulated by the pressure above the melt, and falling onto a moving surface where they solidify. The radioactive wastes are pref. in the form of phosphates and the pref. devices include a melting and founding vessel made from three coaxial tubes.
