The electronic circuit arrangement for data display devices incorporates a symbol generator which works from a digital coded dot display. The system is programmable and is built up from a paralle-series converter (1) with a 5-bit input (E1; E3; E5; E6; E9), a storage register (2) with the same capacity, a pulse generator and circuit interrupter (4). Outputs from the converter (A4; A5; A9; A10) are fed in conjunction with pulse signals to a decision gate (3) which produces a light-dark signal (HD). The latter determines the brilliance of the light spot on the screen scan. The circuit has the effect of extending the range of a character dot code to impose the legibility of the symbols on the screen.
