Rope wedge type clamping device - has rope loops around floating wedge pulled into gap between housing and clamping block

A quick action locking device has a wedging action to hold a rope or cable with load without possibility of slipping. The main housing (1) has a 'U' profile with top and bottom surfaces separated by a gap slightly greater than the maximum rope size to be handled. The housing is pivoted (5) onto a machine or structure. A pivoted clamping block (2) is located in the gap between top and bottom housing surfaces and one edge has a part radius profile (4) to receive the rope (6). The rope is looped around a freely floating wedge (7) and as a load is applied the wedge is pulled tightly into the gap between the housing and clamping block.
