On a light bridge (1) or other load bearing structure, with at least two bearing points (2, 3) which may have the requisite degree of rigidity but subject to harmful oscillations brought about by rhythmic treading, or similar forces, the object is to provide compensation for transverse oscillations generated in this way. For this purpose an oscillation generator (4) is carried, in the area of an antinode in oscillation brought into being across the length of the structure. In this area there is pref. an oscillation detector (5) generating electric signals corresponding to the frequency and/or amplitude. A frequency control unit may be attached likewise an amplitude control unit. The oscillation generator may incorporate a motor-driven imbalance.
