Metal separator for moving stream of powdered or granulated material - allowing operation with intermittent movement of stream

Device for separating metal parts from a dense moving stream of powdered or granulated material comprises a metal detector (17) and a separator, the stream passing through a detector opening (18) which is subject to an electromagnetic field and the separator and any metal part producing a signal which controls an actuator for the separator. The detector or the part with the opening is in the form of a block which can be displaced by a distance greater than the width of the stream and which is connected to moving means (24) controlled by the detector. The moving means receives advance and return signals on entry of a metal part and after separation of the metal part respectively.
