Editing equipment for sound and cine film - with second sound track to store audio signal edited sections for displaced scenes

The sound/cine film is provided with a magnetic track on one side. In conventional systems the sound signal is off-set from the visual scenes due to the separation of the optics and magnetic head. For improved editing the two tracks are arranged together and the sound track is read off before the scenes are projected. The required time lag between audio pick-up and visual projection is simple to arrange using time delay circuits. When the film is edited then the sound track is not lost. An improved editor for films with a sound track on each side, to ensure even film thickness on each side, and with only one track used, records the sound track on the unused track with the offset spacing compensated for. After editing the edited sound track can be transferred back to the original track with the required offset spacing.
