The multi-purpose platform for mine headings runs on rails under power by means of a series of trolleys and brake appliances to control the platform movement to the drive condition. Each brake appliance (36) has a number of trolleys (35, 34), one brake (36) arresting its trolley (34) while the other is released. The trolleys are joined by haulage means (51) whose ends (52, 53) are secured to the trolleys (31, 35). The platform drive (50) is joined to one of the brake-fitted trolleys and acts on the flexible haulage means for purposes or propulsion. The drive should be mounted on the centre trolley (34) of several in series. Haulage should be by chain, in which case the platform is driven through winches (50) fitted to trolley (34). The platform suspension should be secured to the leading trolley (31) and a trolley (32) coupled to the trolley running behind (35).
