Target practice unit held in shotgun barrel - generates light beam of short duration on pulling trigger

A cylindrical target practice unit fitted into a barrel of a shotgun, has at its base a contactor which is closed by the firing pin. A beam of light is produced which is extinguished after a suitable time by a timing circuit. The delay is sufficiently long to recognise the reflection of light on the target but it is not long enough for correcting the light beam. This arrangement makes it acceptable to the federal legislation covering hunting with projected light. In the housing (1, 2) is arranged between the battery (15, 16, 17) and the light source (8) a normally closed time switch (18) which opens after a specified time period after the electrical circuit of the contact (12) is closed. This circuit remains open until the connection between the contact (12) and the metallic part (1) of the housing is again interrupted.
