The lid or hinged flap holder for the cabinet has at one end of the flap or the lid a pivoted sliding rod and a slider piece which is held on the cabinet wall. The rod is guided in a bore through the sliding piece and a brake is provided in the sliding piece for the rod. The brake blocks are held within the sliding piece and the wedging effect presses these pads against the rod. The force application direction of the braking pad (7) coincides with the pivoting axis (5) of the sliding piece (4). The sliding piece has rectangular cross section and the brake pad has U cross section whose transverse element rests against the sliding rod and its arms enclose the sliding rod (1). These braking pads can be held by a preload against the rod.
