Shell moulds for precision casting, esp. using lost wax - with ceramic reinforcing bars shaken out after casting

Precision casting process in which two or more distributor runner bars are employed to carry the components which will subsequently be cast, the novelty being that the runner bars are reinforced by using a material which bonds with the runners but can be removed without the use of heat. The removable reinforcing parts are pref. bonded to one or more runner bars adjacent to the patterns, and/or to one or more patterns, esp. in a lost-wax pattern cluster combined with runner bars. The reinforcing material or parts pref. consists of a ceramic, refractory, or a silica material, applied after the wax cluster has been covered by at least one coating which forms a shell mould. Used e.g. in the mfr. of shell moulds around lost wax patterns, where reinforcement is required to hold the cluster together such as when a very large number of patterns are mounted on the runners and hence the final shell mould is weak.
