Die built up of segments for metal forming - has curved segment contact interfaces ensuring favourable distribution of forces

The die built up of segments is used in metal forming processes such as deep drawing, upsetting, pressing, punching and cutting. The segmented die is designed to withstand extremely high forces on working materials which impose such loads on the die. The segments (2) have interfaces (C) which do not run in a radial direction but at an angle alpha and the curved interface is designed on considering that the working force components act uniformly in all direction against the inner face of the die opening. This distribution of the force components on die segment connecting surfaces ensures that the die life is extended and its crumbling under excessive loads is prevented.
