Suspension monorail vehicle running gear design - has double wheel bogie to give continuity of traction on sharp curves

The bogies are for running on a vertical I-section monorail (1). The driving bogie has two pairs of horizontal guide wheels (12) on each side of the rail web, one of each pair being located above the other to limit the centrifugal tilting of the vehicle on curves. A single vertical driving wheel (6), bears on one flange of the monorail. The trailer bogie has only two coplanar horizontal guide wheels on each side of the rail web, but two vertical carrying wheels which run one on each flange of the rail. The bogies are linked by vertical journals to a carrier beam (4) from which the load is suspended closer to the trailer bogie than to the driving bogie.
