Cooling water prestressed reinforced concrete pipe - comprising half-shells with peripheral stress members prestressed by internal fluid pressure
Cooling water prestressed reinforced concrete pipe - comprising half-shells with peripheral stress members prestressed by internal fluid pressure
The large pipe is of the type used to convey cooling water in power-station installations, or for similar purposes, usually involve high expense and considerable transport difficulties, and is here in the form of a reinforced-concrete pipe pre-stressed by medium internal pressure. This is made up from half-shells, of half ultimate wall thickness, made in lengths depending on the capacity of the hoisting appliances in use, and provided with internal and external reinforcement for transport and for accommodation of forces and moments occuring when the duct is filled. Pre-stressing of the stress members round the curved half-shells is effected by means of an internal pipe pressure with a fluid. Pre-stressing may also be carried out without internal pressure, with hydraulic presses, pref. built into the gaps.
