Vertical transport arrangement for letters - has letter receiving slotted drum located next to horizontal track

A vertical transport arrangement for stacked flat articles especially letters. A letter coding installation moves the letters which arrive upright on a horizontal track vertically downwards and then out of the coding station on a second horizontal track. To accelerate the downward movement of the letter, a slotted drum located horizontally next to the track receives the letter in its tangential slot. When the drum rotates, the letter disengages itself from the slot, and it is accelerated downwards due to the friction drive received from the drum. A chain track with horizontal attachments moves the letters along the lower horizontal track.
