A liqs. filter comprises a number of magnetic filter candles immersed in the liq. These candles are periodically cleaned by removing them from the liq. Pref. the candles are advanced through the liq. tank by endless belts, on which the candles are fixed at intervals at their ends, transversely to the belts; the greater part of the belts is immersed, while a smaller part, carrying a limited number of the magnetic candles, is above the surface for cleaning of the candles. The tank is pref. deep and narrow; specif. it is of U-section, with the belts following the curve of the U.
