Points or deflector guide for a rolling mill train through a rod or a small steel section is travelling at high speed, where an adjusting drive switches the points to deflect the front end of a very long rolled rod from the path taken by the tail end of the preceding rod, the front end of the new rod travelling into another conveyor. Specifically the adjusting or swivel drive consistd of a servo-controlled hydraulic cylinder contg. a piston employed to switch the points from one conveyor track to the other. Reliable operation when the rod is travelling at very high speeds e.g. 50 m/sec. is obtd.
