A simple electro-mechanical mechanism for counters provides for easy assembly and ensures accuracy of display wheel motion. An electromagnet applies a force to an armature that is located in a slot within a pivoted actuator arm that carries a quadrant gear. As the actuator arm pivots, the quadrant gear engages a main gear wheel coupled to the display wheel. A pin locates in a slot of precise dimensions to limit the motion of the quadrant gear. The quadrant gear has a projection to prevent the wheel overshooting the required position, and a return spring ensures correct location the quadrant gear when the impulse ceases.
