The socket for electrical plugs has a flap cover and is for use on installations where the function is likely to be affected by fouling, moisture etc. It consists of a body (1) with a guard (2) and a cover flap (3). There is a threaded spring (6) which is used to keep the cover flap in the open or closed position. The spring is supported in a bush (2a) which is cast onto the guard of the socket. The bush is also fitted with a suppressor (7) with a ball bearing shaped head (7a). The suppressor operates in conjunction with a cam (3a) which is cast onto the cover flap. The cam pivots on the hinge pin (5) of the cover flap.
