Alkaline industrial wastes from the beverages, milk, soap, textile, paper and concrete industry are neutralised by introducing flue gases with a high CO2 content. A compression stage of the gases with part of the effluents removes agreesive acid components (SO2), the part with the precipitate is extracted and the flue gases are mixed in fine distribution with the effluent in a tubular reactor. The intimate contact causes the neutralisation of the industrial wastes by the CO2 content in the flue gases. This removes aggressive components (SO2) which may cause premature destruction of the plant. The system is simple and the effluents can be neutralised to any desired pH-value. The expense for bottled CO2 is saved.
