The tape spool (1) is held in tension by two springs (2, 2') and the tape is held in a controlled fashion on the spool by a spring loaded arrangement (3, 14, 2', 6, 8). The spool is mounted inside a holder unit (5) which itself is mounted on an axis at right angles to that of the spool, so that the tape can be drawn off in any direction to insulate a long busbar or conductor. The entire spool unit is fixed to the inner circumference of a toothed wheel which can be driven round the conductor mounted for the purpose at the centre of this wheel. The whole arrangement is mounted on a fixed chassis (15).
