Tandem bicycle for muscular training - has conventional front seat operation and hand operated pivoting lever at rear seat position

The drive is provided to the rear wheel from both cycling positions. The tandem provides training for leg muscles as well as general body fitness. Only one cyclist has a conventional pedal (2) and crank drive to the rear wheel. The other cyclist has a hand operated pivoting lever (9) which operates by pendulum movement on a gear (15, 16) connected to the rear wheel (2). The gear operates via a sprocket (19) which drives the rear wheel and consists of a gearwheel (16) with ratchet pawl (15). The pivoting lever is fixed directly behind the front slot. Power is transmitted only one the rearward stroke of the pivoting lever. Two fixed fott supports are provided for the rear cyclist and there is a tensioning spring (25) for the ratchet. Stabiliser wheels are provided on either side of the rear wheel.
