Black-coloured salt for ice and snow thawing - contg. pref. soot to absorb sunlight and accelerate thawing

Salt used for thawing ice and snow on roads etc. is black-coloured by addition of 0.05-5% of soot or a similar substance (pref. 0.05-1%). Black-colouration enhances the absorption of sunlight and hence, accelerate the thawing. The soot particles can be easily distributed among the salt particles and do not sink in the thaw water. The soot exerts an anticaking effect so that there is no need to add special anticaking agents to the salt. The consumption of the salt can be considerably reduced because of the increased effectiveness of the thawing action. Thus, the contamination of the road surface and surroundings can be decreased.
