The pressure cooker has a manually operated stop mechanism which can be provided in the lid handle and is triggered on closing the lidso that on rotation when opening the lid, the latter is detachably held by the stop mechanism in a position where it cannot be removed from the cooker pot but a communication port is set between the inside and ouside of the cooker. Any remaining pressure inside the cooker can escape without danger and the lid can therefore not be removed too quickly, but a conscious manual step has to be carried out. The stop mechanism can be a spring-operated locking pin in the lid handle which engage with a catch on the handle of the cooker pot.
