The tyre testing machine has a shaft (8) with a welded-on disc (10) which carries a rim (11) on which the tyre (12) is mounted. The sides (14) of the machine support the housings (1) of the combined journal and thrust bearings (4). When a tyre is being tested the load applied to the tyre causes the shaft (8) to deflect. This deflection is accommodated by mounting the housings (1) in an elastomeric layer (3). This elastomeric layer can be made of a single piece of uniform hardness or it can be made of separate pieces having different hardnesses in order to achieve the required flexibility of bearing mouting.
