Briquettes mfr. from hot reduced iron ore, in which the reduced ore is compacted at 482 degrees C between two rotating rolls contg. compaction pockets forming a mould and the pockets are sprayed with water to keep their temp. below 427 degrees C before they enter the compaction zone. The amt. of water is pref. controlled by a temp. transducer and the pref. device consists of two rolls contg. matching mould recesses on their periphery; an ore-feeder above the roll-gap; a housing round the rolls; a briquette-ejector; and water-spraying devices actuated by an analogue signal generated by the temp. transducer. Prevents the briquettes tending to stick in the moulds at 482 degrees C.
