One of the two hulls is made smaller than the other, by an amount equal to the hull thickness. The larger (2) is split (3) horizontally either where it is widest or at the join between sides and deck so that the smaller can be fitted inside. The joint between the two parts of the larger hull is arranged to be watertight. Provision is made for securing all parts together when the smaller hull (4) is in the larger. This can be using screws or bolts with threaded wingnuts to tighten across the flanged joint. The joint can have a S-shape or other sinuous form to assist alignment and watertightness.
