The linking component has been re-designed as a loop (16) of steel wire, whose outward-turned lower ends (18) are sprung into holes in a saddle (11) let into the piano key (1) and whose upper end (the bight of the loop) is fastened to a (preferably beech wood) cap (17) which can turn in a felt lined cylindrical cavity (20) in the next member (3) of the piano hammer mechanism. A cavity (15) is needed in the key for the lower ends of the loop, which fit into their holes in the saddle with some slight play. This accords with the main purpose of the new design - to reduce friction at small expense and without complication.
