An appts. for the winding of fibre materials into a package to make a roving out of silver, has a second bobbin sleeve so mounted that it is parallel to a first bobbin sleeve at the winding station. The material is wound on the first bobbin sleeve until it is fully wound when the material feed is transferred under the required tension and control to the second bobbin sleeve, the tension being exerted to no higher than that of the average fibre length. The system ensures that the material can be wound into packages of high density and of constant tension, without imposing breakages on the material.
