1534264 Proximity switch LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 7 Nov 1975 [21 Nov 1974] 50452/74 Heading G1N [Also in Divisions F1 and H3] In an I.C. engine ignition system a transducer in which magnetically hard bars 11, one for each cylinder on a rotor 10 replacing the normal contact breaker, pass under a coil L set between oppositely magnetized pairs of polepieces 12-16; as the bars change their direction of magnetization a pulse is induced in coil L. All normal advance/retard facilities may be provided. The approximate semisinusoidal pulses Fig. 4 (not shown), cause the ring tuned circuit LC1 R1 resonating near the sinusoidal frequency, raising amplifier T1 above its cut-off bias and so triggering monostable multi-vibrator T2, T3 away from its stable state, in which T2 conducts until capacitor C2 has fully charged. A buffer amplifier T4 supplies pulses to drive an ignition amplifier providing high voltage pulses.
