In the internal combustion engine sparking plug at least one auxiliary electrode (34, 36) is connected to the voltage source for the central and earthed electrodes (30, 28) through a high impedance component (38, 40), so that spark gaps between electrodes follow each other in the plug axial direction. A constant voltage supply is maintained and the capacity of the capacitors included in the circuit is more than 100 times greater than that of the electrode spark gap plates. The resistors used are also much higher than the resistance of the spark gap during discharge.
