Tape recorder manual selection facility - using linear slide moved by gear drive to operate stops to engage tape drive mechanism

A manual selection facility for tape recorders allows either record, playback, rewind or fast feed to be preselected and to be activated after a predetermined time interval. The friction drive mechanism for tape transport etc. is dependent upon which of four keys are selected. The keys are housed in a channel located in the base of the tape drive unit. Once the keys have been selected the tape drive is actuated when a slide is moved to operated a pivoted lever. The linear motion of the slide is initiated by an electric motor coupled to a reduction gear with an eccentrically mounted pin.
