The orthodontic appliance has an orthodontic base welded onto a conventional orthodontic dip or support and then adhered directly to the surface of the tooth with the use of fixing wires. The back of the orthodontic base (11) is contoured to the mesial-distal and occlusal gingival curvature of the tooth (13) to which it is fixed and is designed for max. cover of the tooth face. The base (11) is perforated (15, 16) to permit adhesive (14) to flow through and form a mechanical bond when the adhesive hardens. Pref. the base has a number of specific designs for optimum bonding to various types of teeth.
