Appts. for feeding, esp. round cross-section bars to upsetting presses or like machines, comprises a storage chest with an inclined bottom, side walls and a bottom opening and a transporter comprising two chains with holding fingers and a drive mechanism. The frontal surfaces of the bars are adjacent to the side walls of the chest. The transporter is guided upwardly through the opening in the chest bottom and in the region of the fingers. The chain links are disposed against the side walls with outlet stops and recycling stops situated in the direction of movement and above the fingers.
