The vessel comprises a set of superimposed spaced apart, truncated cones or pyramids, of identical cross section and converging downwards to form narrow parallel riser channels between them, polluted inflow pours into the upper divergent mouth and the liq. rises, with progressively decreasing speed, up the channels, continually losing sediment which falls to the vessel floor. The high efficiency of this purificn. process relies on the principle of dividing the rising effluent into a series of narrow channels as the effluent progressively loses foward velocity.
