Connector between washing machine outlet and drain pipe - includes isolation chamber which remains full of water to block communication between outlet hose and drain pipe

A connector (e.g. plastic) has an internal cavity defining an isolation chamber arranged between an inlet chamber to which the outlet hose of a washing machine is connected (pref. via a gravity closed valve) and an outlet chamber to which the drain pipe is connected. The inlet and outlet chambers are at the same level and the isolation chamber is below this level, and a partition extends from the upper wall of the cavity into the isolation chamber to separate the inlet and outlet chambers. When the washing machine is drained through the chambers into the drain pipe the isolation stays full to a level above the bottom of the partition to isolate the drain pipe from the washing machine outlet hose and prevent odours from passing back from the drain pipe to the washing machine. Pref. a valve is provided so that if draining of crates through the drain pipe set up a low pressure in the inlet chamber (which would siphon water from the machine) the valve opens and introduces ambient air into the inlet chamber.
