Cleaning hair brushes by destroying hair - with solns of oxidising or reduc-ing agents pref. lithium hypochlorite, thioglycolates or potassium borohydride

Hair brushes of synthetic material and other similar objects, e.g. combs, are cleaned by contacting with a soln of an oxidising or reducing agent which dissolves easily in water and is capable of dissolving or destroying tangled hair without simultaneously attacking the non-proteinaceous bristles, e.g. of nylon, also over long treatment periods, followed by removing object from soln. A Cl- contg. oxidising agent supplying 0.1-20 g/l Cl2 is pref. used, more pref. LiOCP, opt. mixed with 15.40 wt.% concn. and may be thioglycolates or KBH4. Cleaner may be used as tablets or powder packed in plastic lined Al foils.
