A two ply upholstering fabric comprises a knitted facing panel which is produced on guide bar II of a flat bar knitting machine with a "Charmeuse" type stitch and a thin flexible plastic foam layer (pref. polyurethane) secured to the facing fabric. Pref. the facing fabric is formed from textured synthetic yarns (pref. polyamide or polyester) according to the pattern 2n2/101 where n is between 2 and 20. The fabric is used for covering automobile seats and has good elasticity in both longitudinal and transverse directions.
