Into the slot at the top of the upright is inserted a horizontal beam on which rests a roof rafter. At right angles to the beam, and on top of it, and on a double shoulder of the upright, rests a roof-purlin which is bolted to the upright. The two vertical opposite surfaces of the upright have a groove down them; one of the two flanges flanking the groove is higher than the other and the grooves receive strips or panel edges. On top of the roof-purlin are placed sheets or panels for tiles etc.
