Decorative fabric wall covering - bonded to a paper substrate by a low melting adhesive acting as a water proofing agent

Wall covering comprising a decorative fibrous sheet of low softening point synthetic material adhesively bonded to a sheet of air-permeable paper is mfg. by: (a) forming a low fusion point coating film, applying this to a sheet of paper and if necessary cooling the assembly produced, and (b) introducing the sheet of paper bearing the coating film and the decorative sheet placed against the film, into a zone heated to 90-110 degrees C to cause the coating to soften, while applying a pressure to ensure penetration of the coating between the fibres. More especially, the decorative sheet is a fabric woven from natural or synthetic fibres. The use of a low fusion point adhesive permits a fabric woven from relatively cheap but low softening point fibres to be bonded to the paper substrate without risk of fusing the fabric.
