The elevator consists of a helical trough wound round the outside of a central cylinder. The assembly is carried on vertical helical springs, which absorb the vibration movement of the elevators. A vibrator motor is fixed to the underside of the assembly and generates vertical vibrations. A second vibrator motor is fitted to the central part of the assembly and this generates horizontal vibrations. The motors may be controlled separately. A variation suspends the cylinder from the centre and allows the horizontal vibrations of the upper and lower halves to be in opposite directions, thus operating with helixes of opposite hand.
