The automated control system for filament drawing and cutting in a continuously running process, results in electrically resistant fibres having diameters between 0.15 and 3.0 mm and length of between 3.0 and 6.0 mm and can produce about 10,000 pieces an hour. The reject rate using the proposed automatic control system is reduced considerably from the normal 60 to 70% level. As the filament passes through the sequential step-by-step drawing stages its transverse resistance is measured and compared with a required level using a 50Hz bridge, the output of which ultimately controls the rate of deposition of material onto the drawing collars.
