Bimetal junction for joining copper and aluminium plates - has copper tube soldered to copper plate and friction welded to aluminium tube

The bimetal junction, for joining copper and aluminium plates etc., has a copper tube (5) soldered or brazed (8) into a hole in the copper plate (1) and an aluminium tube (6') soldered into a hole in the aluminium plate (2). The two holes are coaxial so that the ends of the tubes butt against one another to form a bimetal junction. This bimetal junction is then percussion or friction welded, sealing the two tubes together. The tubes may be selected to have any length required and for larger plates a correspondingly greater number of tubes may be used to give the required strength.
