Hydraulic fluids based on higher alkyl orthocarbonates - prepd. by transesterification of ethyl orthocarbonate

Nrw hydraulic fluids are based on linear or branched higher alkyl orthocarbonates (I), specif. 2-ethylhexyl, 2,2, 4-trimethylphentyl and 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl orthocarbonate. The fluids are esp. suitable for use in the primary hydraulic systems of aircraft. Orthocarbonates (I) can be obtained in high purity, in which state they are non-corrosive, have good thermal stability up to ca. 250 degrees C, and have good viscosity characteristics (VI = 80-150).
