The machine comprises a frame attached laterally to a tractor. A vibrator (11) suspended from the frame acts upon the tree trunk. An extending receiving surface (22) surrounds the tree and slopes toward a centre opening leading to a conveyor below, which removes the fruit to a container. The vibrator can be adjusted for different crops, or fruit ripeness. The receiving surface is formed from a circular wire frame whose radial arms pivot about the end of the vibrator. When the vibrator contacts a free trunk the arms pivot to pull a plastic sheet around the trunk.
