Powder coating compsn giving hammered effect - prepd by two stage mixing of resin with acrylic polymer flow control additive

A powder coating compsn. contng. an epoxy, acrylic or polyester resin binder and 0.005-2.0 wt. % (based on binder) of an acrylic (co)polymer additive which improves flow and prevents pin-hole formation, is produced by (1) mixing 0-1, pref. 0.02 wt. % of the additive with the other new materials (e.g. pigments, Al powder etc.), and the molten resin binder followed by cooling, and (2) further mixing the prod. with 0.005-1, pref. 0.01-0.2 wt. % based on binder) of the additive which is pref. used as a mixt. with a resin, which mixture is ground into 100-600 u particles, stage (2) being effected with the opt. addn. of 0.1-5.0 wt. % Al powder, opt. in admixt. with the additive/resin mixt. The compsn. gives a surface with a "hammered" effect and free of pin holes.
