The mechanism is intended for forming and filling packs from a continuous strip of flexible material resistant against the sterilisation process. The mechanism forms a tube which is partially filled with the material to be packed and sealed by lateral pressure to close the pack. A sterilising agent is applied at the input end of the strip and a pipe reaches into the interior of the tube being formed. the pre-fill float reservoir 36 is provided in the sterile air supply pipe, receives the sterile material to be packed, and, under the influence of the pressure of the sterile air cushion above the float, discharges this into the pack, whereupon the pack is sealed.
