Preventing spontaneous combustion of underground coal - by injecting surfactant contg metal chloride soln into borings in coal

The parent patent describes an agent for preventing spontaneous combustion of coal in underground workings which consists of a major proportion of calcium and/or magnesium chloride, and contains wetting agents, esp. ethers of dialkyl-phenyl-polyglycols with 5-20 glycol groups in the glycol ether group, and 1-9C alkyl groups. In this addition agent is introduced under pressure in the form of an aqs. soln. contg. 25-35 wt. % of the agent into holes bored into the mass of coal. Gives good protection against spontaneous combustion with less frequent inspection and fewer applications of the agent.
