Long-life nozzle for attachment to the base of a tundish - in the continuous casting of metals such as steel

Nozzle for the continuous casting of metals such as steel, where the nozzle is fixed to the lower part of a tundish for directing a stream with a horizontal component into a mould. The novelty is that the nozzle has a cylindrical or truncated cone shape and one of its ends has a surface which is included w.r.t. the nozzle axis, the bore widening out from that surface so it can be connected to the tundish outlet. The bore of the nozzle is pref. conical along its entire length, the conicity being 1% max. and the nozzle axis pref. forms an angle of 30-60 degrees, esp. 50 degrees w.r.t. the tundish outlet. The length:dia. ratio of the nozzle bore is pref. above 6:1. The life of the nozzle is increased, thus reducing the cost of the metal castings.
