Valve to mix hot and cold water - has cold water by-pass passage with spring loaded valve

Hot and cold water enter through respective passages (5, 6) to be mixed in a mixing chamber (8) before leaving through an outlet (7). The inlet passages are closed by valves (9, 10) controlled by a torsion spring. A by-pass (35) is used to adjust the maximum output temperature setting. In order to eliminate problems due to differences in the hot and cold water supply pressures, the valve (36) in the by-pass line is spring loaded (37) and its movement is limited by a screw (38). The by-pass prevents the cold water mixing with the hot water even if the cold water pressure is much higher than the hot water pressure.
